Independent and Family Owned Since 1957

Shaw Supply Company was founded in 1957. The Shaw family, however, has been associated with the electrical industry in Kansas City since the early 1900s when John H. Shaw started a small electrical contracting company on the city’s east side.

His son, Charles Firth Shaw (“Firth”), joined the family contracting business in the late 1930s. In 1957, Firth left the contracting business and founded Shaw Electric Supply Company. Firth’s goal was to raise the bar of the traditional electrical supply house. He used his 20 years of experience in the contracting business to offer his customers not only quality products at wholesale prices, but also technical expertise and problem-solving solutions for countless electrical applications.

Firth’s son, John F. Shaw, joined Shaw Supply right out of college.   After Firth’s passing in 1990, John and his wife, Sue, took over the business.  The company’s name was shortened to Shaw Supply Company and the operation was moved from its original Westport location to the east side of downtown Kansas City at 16^th and Troost, where the company continued to prosper and grow.

In 2012, John Shaw’s two sons, Brian and Patrick Shaw, became owners and managing partners of the company.  As a third generation, family owned business, Shaw Supply continues to follow in Firth’s footsteps by focusing on the core of what we do:  quality products at competitive pricing with a focus on personal customer service that you won’t find at the larger, national suppliers.
